Silly, Silly, Silly Season

If you're a little silly, like me, then you're QUITE excited for this festive season.

And if, like me, you are seeing your parents and the littlest Veck for the first time in oh, say, TWO YEARS, then I'll bet you're really, really, REALLY excited.

So before things get all crazy, and The Great Trek to Durban starts, I thought I'd just throw a little

Happy Holidays Blog Reading Friends!
your way.

Not that I'm about to ignore you for two and a bit weeks, but just so I can get my message in before you are inundated with similar messages with potentially less sentiment.

You have yourselves a good one now!
And please, PLEASE, be a little silly.

In Case You Missed It

In case any of you crazy Joburg drivers missed the magnificent rainbow that just popped across the sky, here it is...

First time I have been able see a full arch AND the whole 'shadow'.

And before you ask, I took the picture at a robot and typed the post at home. :)

I Dare You to NOT Feel Something

Sometimes the advertising we see on a day to day basis can really make you mad. It is irritating, blunt (in the worst possible way), badly written and badly art-directed. Basically, you either switch the radio/tv channel, flip the page, or roll your eyes.

And then there are adverts like this that shake your core a little...
Try not to feel something.

I found it on copyranter.

Some Tuesday Love

Pic from here

Food, Wine, Design- Divine

Did you go to the Food, Wine and Design fair?
I spotted it on a few blogs last week, and thought it looked quite interesting.
Luckily, the rest of my office also thought it looked cool so we made it into an Office Field Trip.

Here are some of the things I liked, tried, bought, snapped, tasted. :)
Click on the pics for more info on each product.

Idiom -Wines of Character. Our first stop!
The sunny eating, drinking, resting area.
The other resting area.
toni glass tea. I bought the Taste the Tropics flavour. Yum!
David Krynauw
goet - the table's pattern is the street map of JHB CBD
the awesome JHB building legs for the table above
There were a few other shops I liked, and tried, but didn't have hands or camera stability (there was a lot of wine, ok!) to snap, like Pesto Princess, Salvation Cafe, Missibaba and an amazing olive stand whose name I have forgotten, but whose Tangy Olives I have at home.

Mostly, I just wondered around in awe at the incredible creativity on display, feeling like I was meeting celebrities after seeing all these products on the blogosphere for so long, and, while I didn't manage to do any productive Christmas shopping, I did manage to get a few snacks.

SO, I went back on Saturday for more!

Yip, this just happened

Wear Black

There is always one fool who wants to help the cause, but looks at the pile of black laundry and thinks, "Meh, I'll do it tomorrow."

Yip, today, that fool is me. And I didn't even think to wear navy blue, or gray. No no no, I wore white.

So to make up for it, and to try co-ordinate with the black bow on my shoes, I am going to carry my laptop bag around ALL DAY, possible attaching it to my chest so I can use these arms for doodling, tea drinking and other Extremely Important Things.

Wear black today people! Even if it is just a little.

P.s. We're protesting to protect Media Freedom... In case you were confused.

Goldfish

Despite the ominous Sunday sky, we packed our cooler and headed off to watch Goldfish at the Botanical Gardens.

The opening band, The Kiffness, left us feeling a little, well, not-Kiff, but Goldfish were great!

And they were even better once the skies cracked open and forced people to lose their inhibitions, as one does when the mascara has already dripped down your face and your tshirt has become one with your skin.

They really are a 'no matter the weather' band. Or at least their Durban fans are!

Movember

How's your Movember going?
Did you make your donation to the Movember charity?
Or has the itchiness taken over and forced your to fold?

#32 - #34

I was just sitting here, thinking about how much I would like some new Jae Lake Rules For Life, when poof... a few more appeared!

Rule for Life #32: washing and soaking stockings after they have been covered in red wine by a mole who couldn't handle her liquor on a Saturday night is futile.
Rule for Life #33: never put stockings on in the dark first thing in the morning, particularly if you have a big day of meetings with senior managers.
Rule for Life #34: Rule for Life #32 and #33 should be considered in parallel.

Well, there you go, now you know!

Popping over to Durban for the weekend.

Hope you're ready Durban!

Back Down

There I was this morning, moaning about 'What To Wear,' when this was being watched, just a blog away.

It's a little icky if you're sensitive, but if you need a bump back down to earth... here you go.

And the worst part? Apart from doing your Little Bit, and telling some friends, there isn't much you can do unless you have global persuasion powers or enough courage to quit your job and go work for nothing but albatross love.

Midway is a film by Chris Jordan
"that will lead viewers on a rich visual journey through the many layers of Midway Island’s stunning paradox. There, in the poetic beauty of the mythical Albatross, is a shocking human-caused environmental tragedy that we are challenged to witness head on. Filmed in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, MIDWAY will walk the viewer into beauty, grief, horror, and joy, intertwined and dancing, as a potent metaphor for our times. The film is currently in production, and the planned release date is fall of 2012."

Colour Me Happy

I have a little routine that I generally try to stick to in order to avoid arriving at work late and general disorder in the day.
It's slightly kindergarten-ish. One of those things that kids have to do so they have time for playing and dawdling in the morning, but it seems to work.

I choose my clothes the night before.

Ok, I also pack my lunchbox and get my coffee ready for the drive.

This is generally a good move. I hop out of bed, hop under the shower, and hop into my already-chosen clothes. Quick quick!

But sometimes there are mornings like this morning where I have hopped out of bed, hopped under the shower and then...  not liked my outfit choice.

This is a real stumbling block for me... I'm indecisive at the best of times, so you can imagine that in the morning, before coffee, before breakfast... it's not a good situation.

There were a grand total of 3 half outfits this morning, and I was stating to get incredibly frustrated at my wardrobes lack of going-together-ness when I saw it.

Et voila! Mood changed, clothes found, day made.

SO, the round about point of that whole story was this... some teal things for you:
Recognize that one??? It's the Isar in Winter. The image that started this whole dang love affair with teal.

*Please note, hopping does not actually happen until after coffee.

Chills

This morning's KOL vibes are brought to you by Lowe Bull, Cape Town, and come with a whole lot of chills!

Like CopyRanter said on his blog:

"I think that may be the best way to go with an organ donor commercial. I know some of you will disagree, which is fine. I was on the fence between praise and derision myself."

What do you think?

Clever Illustrations

I just saw the quick little trailer for Haiku for the Single Girl by Beth Griffenhagen on Cup of Jo.

The illustrations are by Dan Meth who I have never heard of, but now think is great... but you go ahead and judge for yourself!

Baddies

When I got home from work this afternoon there was a note under my door. A typed out note with the heading:
REWARD
Last week I was broken into in !:/;': Estate (where I live).

One of those mysterious types where there was no security breach, the baddies came in through the sliding door on the second floor and left through the front door, locking up behind them. Naturally no one saw anything.

Now, usually I am not scared. Heck, I've been home alone all week. So I just got a lock for the garden gate, and that was it.

But the later it's gotten, the more skittish I've become.

Why is that dog barking? Why is it barking so loud? Why is it still barking? I've never heard it bark before.
What is that drilling noise? Is someone taking the door off the hinges? Do they think I'm at the agm? Oh... It's just the fridge.

Gah!

What's a girl to do on a night like this other than close ALL the windows tight and have some wine to know the lights out?

Let's hope for sweet, peaceful dreams.

For that yapping, freaking-me-out-now dog.

Look At You

A very dear potential-future-president friend of mine had this as her bbm picture today. I felt it was fitting for this stage of my life. Your life. Our life. Well, life in general.
We are young!

Eeeeee

Wandies

A quick lunch and sneaky view of the Sharkies before we head off to THE concert.

Tucked away in Soweto, it's not what I think of when I think Shebeen, but the wors rolls are meant to be great.

A perfect place to clear our heads and do a little warm up stretch.

Are you excited?
I'M SO EXCITED!

And not just Frank and I, a whole bunch of us!

With only 3 sleeps left, I thought I'd share this, and let you get excited too!

p.s. did I mention that I'm excited?

Tuesday's Tip

Not really a tip, but this early, and pre-coffee, I couldn't think of a synonym for quote that started with a T.

Today's Tuesday Quote comes from this article that Elle did on Hanneke Schutte of Handsome Things

‘Who you are today and who you’ll be in five years depends on two things: the people you meet and the books you read.’ – Twyla Tharp

What am I reading:

So I guess you'll have to hold 5 years to see how they shape me. :)
