New (Pinterest) Resolutions

So that was 2012. All done, wrapped up, ready to be filed away into the memory bank.
Since Pinterest was such an integral part of our lives this year, I thought I'd share my 2013 resolutions with you all, Pinterest-style.

Here are some snippets from my board - In 2013:
celebrate life, everyday.
Just do it
Learn to appreciate those quiet moments

I hope you see in the New Year in a way that is true to where ever this year has led you, and that when the clock strikes 12 you can let the old year go with a happy heart and embrace this new one with renewed passion and enthusiasm.

You've got this.

Are you ready?

I've hear the to-be-expected "I am SO ready for a holiday" and "Bring on next year, I am done with this one."

To those people I would just like to say, have you bought your 2013 diary yet?
You cannot claim to be ready for the new year until you have. Seriously.

I got this on from Typo. I'm ready. Bring on the new year!

Thoughtful

My mom sent me this tea a while ago now so I thought I should finally drink it.
When they said "5 bags with thoughtful tags" they weren't kidding...

"Strange how a teapot can represent at the same time the comforts of solitude and the pleasures of company."

And exhale, sigh, breath in the steam. The troubles just waft away.

Swimming on the East Rand

It's not quite like it is in Durban.
I often have to remind myself, more than once, that these people did not grow up like we did. They probably didn't do as much swimming at school and they definitely didn't spend their weekends training on a beach.
No, no. Their upbringing resulted in a slightly different relationship with water.

Most of the time there is a lot of this:
Empty swimming pool, not festive bunting.
When there is an occasional visitor, I hear things like, "Can you do that flippy thing?"
And think things like, "You mean a tumble turn?" and how would Mr Phelps respond to a question like that.

'Flippy' thing? Really?
Attire wise, there is a whole lot of this:
OVER costumes
And not an aweful lot of this:

And don't even get me started on the concept of sharing a lane. It's not something that is done. Ever. Apparently.

Give me swimming strength.

pics from google searches, sorry.

Where the Magic comes from

So I had a Birthday, was thoroughly spoiled, and got so many lovely messages.
Although the best part was post-bath, cuddled on the couch with some delicious spaghetti bolognaise from my love, there were some tea related highlights during the day, like carrot cake, brownies, and this, from my also-born-in-October friend Jae:

It's from here. Great, don't you think!

Wanted:

1 x office space for me to make pretty and keep all of the stationary I will one day own in. An office all for me and only me. Think of the crafting! The making! The doing! The blogging! NEED!

Just look at these lovely spaces:
It started with this pic from the Poetry blog
And then Pinterest happened. Oh dear.

Heck, I'd even settle for a cupboard-room!
Oh, to have a house with ample corners for offices.

Hey there!

I'm back! I know, I know, I've been a bad blogger. But before you get frowny on me, let me tell you where I've been!

I was in Durban because my sister got married!!!!!!
Derryn took beautiful pictures of her in her dress that my mom made!

We wore these beautiful dresses by Kathrin Kidger

We walked up the aisle to this song

And they danced to this song

And the sun shone it's warm little rays onto us. Not a single drop of rain!
All in all, a beautiful day! And now, Miss V is a Mrs B! But to me, she'll always be my Snot.

Congratulations!

Whether you know it or not

You are an agent of change.

Huh?

“A little over a year ago, The United Nations declared internet access a basic human right. You are a change agent whether you know it or not. Whether you want to be or not. Everyday you blithely browse your virtual network you participate in an engine of social transformation,” says Opensite.org.

I got chills from this. It put the fight back in my social step. Welcome to the Hyper Revolution my friends, welcome.

Can I start over?

This morning I
1. Cancelled my alarm in my efforts to push snooze.
2. Split my cap as I was about to jump in the pool.
3. Was told I can't swim without a cap just when I had convinced myself that 2kms of kicking would be fun.
4. Found an obvious mark on my white t-shirt from where someone ironed the printed label on the inside onto the outside.
5. Lost one earring.
6. Forgot my ipod.

Today I
1. Got half an hour extra sleep.
2. Get to buy new a new swimming cap. What colour should I choose?
3. Get to sing for the island all. Day. Long.
4. Got to work early. Now I can leave early and go for that swim.
5. Am really appreciate my coffee.

See what I did there?

Hope you're off to a better start!

It's not silliness, it's spirit.

You really, really are

If, like me, you have a very busy day ahead of you, with so so many things on the To Do list.
If, like me, you are feeling a little less than fabulous because of that thing you ate, didn't get to gym and are endorphin-less.
If, like me, you need a little extra push today... here you go:
You really, really are, you know.
Go forth and conquer, tea in hand.

It's cold outside

But these two little trees are as adamant as I am that Spring is here.
Sure my short sleeves are covered by these jerseys that have overstayed their welcome in the front of my closet, but these two trees put a smile on my face and make me long for those sticky summery days whenever I venture out of home.
Keep going little trees!

Sweet, Sweet Sorbet

In honour of my faraway Mama's birthday and arrival on home turf, I took her to Sorbet for a little mani pedi.

Although we were in separate rooms, I could hear her delight when the deluxe pedi started with actual 'sanding' of the feet, not the dainty attempts at exfoliation you get elsewhere.

I was thoroughly impressed with the experience- the yummy smelling exfoliator and even yummier smelling creams... Well, except for the part when the manicurist called me out on my Very Dry Cuticles. I made a comment about winter having just ended and how surprised I was when I first wore sandals and realised, "Hey! I have toes!" She wasn't impressed. Not quite Joburg poppie standards, dear Robyn.

So, I got some Mavala cuticle oil and will apply it dutifully, and I will definitely be going back to Sorbet sometime. (Sponsorships??)

I picked an OPI colour but forgot to check the name. What a bad blogger I am. But I have pretty nails nonetheless.

Product Review

Cadbury Bubbly.

The verdict: it's a little messy to eat and quite hard to break off little pieces because it has bubbles as opposed to the regular chocolate rectangles. So as long as you don't mind eating a little more than you maybe should, and trust me- you won't mind- you'll be good. It's a pretty fun looking chocolate and tastes amazing. :)
Go get one... Now.

Product Review: Bokomo Premium Rusks

Double Chocolate, nog al.

My thoughts:
Are you freaking kidding me? It's a 'rusk' that looks and tastes like biscotti. And goes with coffee. And has a lot of chocolate chips. And can be eaten in the morning! For breakfast even. Heck yes!

I approve!
